Open Space Preserve

Less than 15 miles from the heart of Silicon Valley along the Santa Cruz Mountains ridge line, you'll find a collection of parks and open space preserves sporting 360° views from San Francisco to Monterey Bay.  Rolling grass-covered knolls separated by oak and bay studded ravines that mark seasonal water courses dominate what you see.  You might even catch a glimpse of a grove of coast redwoods downslope somewhere on the west side.

I captured this picture while on a walk through Russian Ridge.  To me it captures the essence of the Santa Cruz Mountains, verdant grass and trees, lazy coastal fog carried on afternoon breezes slowly enveloping everything, an easy trail beckoning I follow it to the next bend.

Peaceful, natural.
